'measured & detale' is a 2 CD box which provides 2 + n listening experiences.
Each CD can be played alone, yet the biggest pleasure is to be found playing them simultaneously or with slight delay.
The topography of the same hour is described twice by most different means.
°
'detale'
features the trio Schaufelberger Mouthon Bärtsch departing into open or only slightly directed improvisations
describing vast musical landscapes of varying density. It has been recorded in two days in spring 2001 without editing or
overdubs.
°
'measured'
sets out to draw a map thereof, featuring a string trio va, vc, cb and various electronic procedures.
The compositions by Daniel Mouthon use techniques ranging from
altered oscillographies of the 'detale' pieces to almost
conventional songs featuring the fresh voice of Anna Trauffer.
Some of the string recordings are reproduced as they are,
others have been rearranged or altered soundwise in the
post-production process.
The other end on the scale of techniques applied are
the electronic pieces by Philipp Schaufelberger,
e.g. using carefully not-quite-random generated
matrixes which trigger - again - string sounds or
textures of small percussion.
°
Playfully trying out different listening techniques:
what happens to Daniel Mouthons declamatory hollers
in lll when the 'soulstars' string section sets into
groove?
Where ends the silvery horizon of 'subhistorie' when the
pirate ship in ll takes off?
